A group of 7 young people from the UK Free Methodist Church
es visited Kibogora in June; this was the second visit for this group. They ran a “Kids Klub” for the children every afternoon. Once they got used to the crazy bazungu (white people) both the children and adults got fully involved in the activities. They particularly liked making the hand puppets and the other craft projects. The activities were not confined to the children as the adults love to get involved in any activities they see happening around the hospital. Things that we take for granted such as paper and coloured pencils have a huge novelty value for young and old.
During the visit of the group the new Isolation Ward/ Pharmacy building was completed and the group was involved in moving the equipment and stock of medications from the old to the new pharmacy and cataloguing the stock. The new racking in the pharmacy should mean that it will be easier to monitor the stock of materials held in the store.
The group were also invol
ved in organising and running one of the monthly gatherings for the elderly people in the Kibogora area who have no relatives able to care for them. There are usually around 160 at the meeting where they have tea and bread and have the opportunity to catch up on news and if they need help they can speak to Pastor Wakana or one of the other staff. Before leaving to walk home each person is given a kilo of beans and a kilo of rice plus a bar of soap, it is not much but they are very happy to receive these small gifts
