A large team of engineers from the Engineering Ministries International organisation visited Kibogora in March 2011.
The EMI mission statement reads “Engineering Ministries International (EMI) is a non-profit Christian development organization made up of architects, engineers and design professionals who donate their skills to help children and families around the world step out of poverty and into a world of hope”.
The purpose behind the team’s visit is the need to have a “master plan” for the development of the hospital over the next 10 – 15 years. The demands being placed on the hospital are already greater than could have been imagined only a few years ago and are set to continue growing as the population grows and as more people are able to get access to the hospital for treatment.
In the past buildings have been erected when there was a need and funds were available. This ad hoc methodology is no longer viable as the land available for development at the hospital is extremely limited, therefore a much more planned and considered approach is essential if future demands are to be met.
The Engineering ministries15 strong team consisted of surveyors, architects, electrical & drainage engineers etc. The team spent 2 weeks at Kibogora doing their initial site investigations. Over the next few months they will finalise the plans for the site and present the hospital with their findings and plans for a program of rebuilding which will considerably increase the capacity of the hospital and provide a more efficient layout of services.
