The Sponsor a Bed Programme is designed to give the hospital a guaranteed monthly income which enables the payment of hospital care for those who do not have the means to pay.

The Rwanda Government Health Insurance scheme provides 90% of the cost of  health care. Unfortunately a  number of the population are too poor to pay the £4.00 ($6.50) per annum per person fee to join the scheme. In the Kibogora area many people are subsistence farmers who would fall into the $2.00 per day income group and if they have 3 or 4 children the cost of the medical insurance is prohibitive.

In addition to the direct medical costs Sponsor a Bed funds are used to meet the social care needs of the patients while in hospital. This includes the provision of food, clothing and hygiene needs.

We ask that a commitment is made to give an amount of money each month for a minimum of one year. In this way the Kibogora Initiative can make similar commitment to remit the total money promised every month. This removes the uncertainty of having an unpredictable flow of funds which makes budgeting much easier.

The programme has been running for a number of years and there have been many cases of lives being saved or the quality of life being greatly enhanced by the generosity of the Sponsor a bed supporters. Kibogora Hospital, unlike some other hospitals, will not turn away anyone who is seriously ill if they cannot pay for their care.

If you are a UK taxpayer please complete the “Gift Aid” part of the form as this will enable us to reclaim part of the tax you have already paid on the donation.
